In Gratitude

~ by HYT-TTP Student
In honor of the teaching spirit, whose essence flows through the guidance of our teachers, and all the teachers who have walked the path before us, whose patience and love have become our spiritual solace—with deep gratitude for what has been given.
As I observe the gentle flow of my breath, my higher mind recalls the tone of Swami Veda’s voice as he reiterated the deeper meaning of teaching: Receiving a certificate does not make you a yoga teacher. A yoga teacher leads in such a way that students leave feeling loved and at peace—better than when they first arrived.
Throughout the years, I have observed our teachers in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP) exemplify selfless love through their actions, reflecting a steadiness and meditative elegance cultivated through tapas (self-discipline).
It became evident that love and selflessness can be expressed in many ways, as observed in the following instances:
Love speaks gently, even when the student is having “a moment,” and remains firm in the understanding that the student must go through a process of growth.
Selfless love is consciously choosing to remain present and supportive out of duty and commitment, even while feeling tired, because the teacher has practiced the techniques and cultivated the state of mind that makes this possible.
Love protects with a grounded presence, allowing the student to move through their samskaras (habitual subconscious conditioning) and trusting that they have the ability to do so.
Love is showing patience, even when the student does not yet fully understand the teachings.
Love is showing up to teach with humility, softly veiling mastery of the practices.
Love is recognizing when one has erred and consciously shifting one’s actions toward a more sattvic (harmonious) space.
Love creates space for courage to grow and expand, dissipating the fear of feeling judged or of not being good enough.
Being loved unconditionally is the greatest gift one can receive.
May these words be a soft whisper to those who feel called to study, practice, and grow through the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP).
